The Voice returns for a two night Season 4 Premiere this week and Press Pass LA was lucky enough to be on the red carpet at The Chinese Theater in Hollywood to chat with the judges and contestants about what to expect. New judges, Shakira and Usher, plus new twists including the ‘judges steal’ are sure to make this season a hit! We also got to watch an advance screening of the first two episodes which promises more great talent and a season that is sure to pull at your heart strings!
Be sure to check out our red carpet video which includes interviews with former judge and music icon Christina Aguilera, guest mentor Joel Madden, and former contestants Trevin Hunte, Terry McDermott, and more!
We won’t give away any major spoilers here but the season opens with the judges panel singing “Come Together” by The Beatles to kick off the show and we will say that the new judges have come into the fold quite nicely, making for perhaps a better dynamic than when Christina and Cee Lo filled the seats!
The show has a few other firsts as well, beside first-time judges, we are introduced to the first set of twins on the show prompting Blake to compare the blonde beauties from Rochester to a Doublemint Gum Commercial! We also have a teenage contestant who’s rendition of Taylor Swift shocks the judging panel even before she admits that this is her first big performance on stage.
Season 4 is sure to bring a tear to your eye with stories that include a contestant singing “Knockin’ on Heavens Door” in tribute to his former bandmates who have both tragically passed, a young man who competes in honor of his mother who is dying from lung cancer, and a father who has tragically lost his newborn twins and dedicates “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” to his girls in heaven.
But don’t worry, there is just as much laughter as there is tears! Shakira cheekily makes fun of Usher and Adam’s charm, Usher gets a lesson in geography from Blake after calling Nashville a state, and all four judges get a lesson in what being “Sexy and I Know It” is really all about when a contestant from Pennsylvania delivers the most adventurous rendition of LMFAO’s hit song!
There is even a major reveal with one contestant, plugged as a surprise from the beginning of the show, that will have any audience member reeling…HINT: Keep an ear out for an amazing falsetto!
The premiere even ends with a sure front-runner in the competition, as all four judges anoint Judith Hill (who trained with Michael Jackson on his “This Is It” tour) as the one to beat!
