Last year, The Avalon in Hollywood played host to Mary J. Blige and Belvedere Voka benefitting RED to help raise funds to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. This year, it was the home to will.i.am and Alicia Keys for their 2nd Annual TRANS4M Benefit which included performances by the hosts and special guests Bobby Brown and Ludacris.
It could have been just another party during Grammy’s week, but instead willi.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys used this night to donate funds to the I.Am.Angel Foundation which provide assistance to students wanting to attend college. The event raised over $3.3 million dollars in one night and included an art auction and concert.
Celebrity supporters included Parish Hilton (arriving with new boyfriend River Viiperi), Estelle, MC Hammer, Shaggy, Derek Hough and Mark Ballas (Dancing with the Stars), and more. Prior to the event, their were rumors that Britney Spears might attend as the special guest to perform “Scream & Shout” with will.i.am but instead Bobby Brown and Ludacris took the stage. Ludacris performed several tacks including his hit “How Low”, Brown brought us back to the 90s with “My Prerogitive”, and Alicia Keys belted out her latest chart-topper “Girl on Fire”. The night ended with will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas (minus Fergie) singing “I Gotta Feelin”.
I got a feeling that The Avalon will continue to be a hotspot for celebrities to host charity events Grammy’s week and we can not wait to cover their concert next year!
