World of Dance Premiere Review

To summarize NBC’s World of Dance ‘Dance Party’ Extravaganza in Hollywood Thursday evening, one can simply quote Executive Producer and Judge, Jennifer Lopez; “Dance the night away, live your life and stay young on the floor.”

Buzzing throughout the open floor plan of the venue were industry professionals, fans of the show, and an abundance of dancers. Amongst many adults in high-heels and fresh kicks were flashes of pint sized human beings, moving between the large dance floor space, ball-pit, and the highly creative food stations found in every room. Those pint-sized flashes turned out to be members of incredible kid filled dance troupes…but more on that later.

The event certainly catered to the wildly diverse age demographic scattered throughout the club. There was something for everyone, whether that be the cereal bar, Liquid Nitrogen Milkshakes, a variation of fries and tots, or toasted sandwiches. Fun drinks, humorously named after pop-culture references, could be sipped on throughout the night as well. An exclusive 21 and over second-floor oasis with an open bar served as the perfect mingling spot for those looking to socialize rather than hit the dance floor.

The dance floor was simply the place to be, it was electric. Slews of young kids and adults made their way onto the wood floors illuminated by DJ lights where the hottest tracks like “Sicko Mode” and “Going Bad” played. In typical dance battle fashion, a circle formed where brave souls took turns as the star of the show, the center of attention for a few moments.

The crowd erupted each time someone took a leap of faith into the nucleus of artistic energy. Many were young kids and teens. By the end of the night, it felt like the dance floor was forever impacted – destroyed by SKILL. There was everything from freestyle to coordinated dance routines. Dancers contorted and moved in ways I didn’t thing gravity allowed. Onlookers like myself were shocked at the talent.

One talent circulating the room was Season 3 host, Scott Evans, who was actively socializing with attendees and an animated admirer of the dance circle as well. The party on the floor, however didn’t fully start until Mr. Evans found himself in the middle of the dance floor, while Ariana Grande’s smash “break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored” played.  As an engaging host, Scott implored people to join him on the dance floor, which transformed the whole scene into a massive dance party. In that moment, it felt like the world was dancing.
