Paramount+ Looks To Lure Teens To The Star Trek Franchise With Upcoming ‘Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy’ Show

The new Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy show has been said to be a drama that will follow the “blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries as well as first loves” of a new class of Starfleet cadets who are as young as 16.

We just wanted another summer movie, but for now it seems Star Trek is firmly set to air, and keep airing with unlimited series on our televisions. Currently there are eight series currently available on Paramount+. Why not one more instead of a movie? Why not…GenZ are you listening? Paramount+ wants your interest. To appeal to a younger generation the series promises to be diverse and focus on a diversified subject matter as well. This is what we know so far: after more than a year in development, the streamer has greenlit Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, plus released a description of the show. The new series description and quote below from the showrunners seems to hint at a more soapy YA focused Star Trek than the other shows currently on the network. The quote also leads us to believe there will be increased diversity. Considering this is the world of Star Trek, could it be referring to new species as well? We’ll just have to watch to find out.

Starfleet Academy “will introduce us to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”

We hope you enjoyed Zachary Quinto as Spock, wouldn’t it be nice to get an older and edgier film with the original cast? Zoe Saldaña loves making space movies … right?
