Sunday Brunch Club: Mon Ami
Mon Ami has the most spectacular brunch on the west side and we’re here to tell you all about it.
The restaurant is a decadent Mediterranean dining experience tucked just behind Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, CA. You’ll find Mon Ami nestled through a little alley just off the bustle of Ocean ave, with a neon sign that is visible from the street. The menu is locally curated with fresh ingredients that speak volumes in the flavors of every bite you take. Their patio is a must to set the perfect brunch atmosphere. Go on a Sunday and plan to dine away a few hours in leisure and culinary bliss as both their cocktails and entrees will leave you wanting more.
We kicked off our dining experience with two of their cocktails, their Capri Spritz and the Milano Spritz. The Capri Spritz consists of their housemade Limoncello, lemon, and sparkling wine. It is light and refreshing, perfect for capturing the last essence of summer time. The Milano spritz consists of Ramazzotti Rosato, lemon and fresh rosemary. Depsite it’s pink tone the sweet isn’t too strong and also holds up well as a refreshing kick off to an enjoyable brunch.
We decided to order Mon Ami’s french toast as our appetizer. This is the perfect dish to share and can easily be divided evenly with a table of up to 4 who want to whet their sweet tooth while still enjoying all the savory options the brunch menu offers. The french toast is made with fresh country bread, topped with blueberry compote, finished off with a whipped ricotta frosting and almond slivers. When we say it’s out of this world we mean it. You might not want to share it after snagging that first bite.
For our mains we kicked it off with the highly suggested Shakshuka. This was the most unbeliveable dish! If you only order one item this should be it. It comes out in a large bowl with eggs that are slowly cooked in tomato sauce, with potatoes, onions and peppers. As if those ingredients aren’t enough, you also have two piece of toasted country bread that help you soak up all the decadent flavors.
As our second main we opted for our server reccomended Whipped Feta Omlette, it was another home run in taste. The omelette came cooked to perfection with sundried tomatoes, whipped feta, and Castelvetrano olives. We never thought of putting olives in an omlette and now we are devoted converts.
As our dessert we decided to try Mon Ami’s fun take on an espresso martini with their Tiramisu on their cocktails list. The Tiramisu consists of vodka, amaretto, almond milk, cookie syrup, and of course the star ingredient: espresso. We enjoyed it and it was the perfect dash of sweetness to end this brunch course.
